Zhan Qimin Leads a Delegation to the U.S.

From May 6 to 9, Zhan Qimin, Executive Vice-President of Peking University (PKU) and President of Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), led a delegation to the United States. The delegation included Wang Weimin and Zhangning, Vice-presidents of PKUHSC, Qiao Jie, President of Peking University Third Hospital, Sun Qiudan, Director of PKUHSC Office of International Cooperation, Guo Liping, Vice-Dean of Peking University School of Health Humanities, and Huang Xiaojun, Director of the Institute of Hematology of Peking University People's Hospital.

  The Global Issues Summit of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) is the 50th Anniversary Forum of AAHC, with the theme of "Promoting Medical Progress through Innovation." The Summit invited Zhan Qimin and Claire Pomeroy, chairman of the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation, to give keynote speeches. In his speech entitled "Medical Development In Need of Innovative Research", Zhan Qimin shared PKUHSC’s experience in scientific and technological innovation and clinical medicine+X. During the Summit, PKUHSC delegation held an Asian regional round-table meeting with AAHC, Tongji University School of Medicine and Seoul National University to discuss issues related to strengthening cooperation among medical schools in Asia.

  On the afternoon of May 7, Zhan Qimin, on behalf of PKUHSC, visited Washington alumni and had cordial talks with them.

  On May 8, Zhan Qimin led the delegation to University of California (UC), Berkeley and met with UC Berkeley President, Carol Christ. During the talks, the two sides signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation between PKUHSC and UC Berkeley, on a MD-PhD program, and on a 4+1+1 joint training program between Peking University School of Health Humanities and UC Berkeley School of Public Health.

  On May 9, Zhan Qimin and his delegation visited Stanford University School of Medicine and had talks with Lloyd Minor, Dean of the School of Medicine, Mark Cullen, Vice Dean of Scientific Research of the School, Mijiza Sanchez, Vice Dean of the School, and Hua Shan, Director of Clinical Blood Transfusion Department of the School. The two sides discussed the possibility of scientific research cooperation in relevant fields.
